Does The Black Church keep Our Single Woman Single???

I can only speak for myself. I'm a 30-something, single, educated, church-going, Black woman. I have no children, never been married, a good job, and to those guys who like smaller women, I have a nice body. I am single for one reason and one reason only: I have high standards that include my #1 "must-have." A potential suitor must have as much of a relationship with God as I do. I'm not trying to carry a man financially, so I don't want to carry him spiritually either. I don't want to have to beg him to come to church with me, or beg him to study the Bible with me, or beg him to pray with me. I want us to willingly and eagerly do these things together. So I wait. :-)

Is that the issue---the black women refusing to settle? Or is it that too many black women (dare I say it) look just like overweight black men. Or maybe because too many black men are in prison? Or maybe because too many blacks recognize that marriage is not workable in the 21st century?

I feel like so many black women are so focussed on a man that is a bible toting, non-cussing, go to church every Sunday type as the man that "God" has chosen for them... that they forget a very basic Christian teaching- sometimes you have to bring someone to Jesus. Simply put that sometimes a man may possess qualities that are very Christian, however, LIFE has also happened to him and with a little polish and true genuine effort- this same man can become an outstanding "Godly" man, but if he doesn't see or feel a need to do anything different, why would he change or adapt... if you don't want to so much as have a conversation with him if the first question of is he saved is answered wrong, he'll simply continue to live his life and find someone who is interested in him as a person first, not whether or not he's "in church" when quite simply, he'd go if he was invited.

I'm not saying Black women should stop going to church, I'm saying that if you want a man to be "equally yoked", be prepared to meet with his needs and wants, not make yours paramount. I'm mid 50's, single, straight, divorced, daughters grown and make a 6 figure salary. But I have no interest in attending church. None. I'd call myself spiritual but not religious. And I have dealt with this issue firsthand. Nope, I'm not trying to compete with your preacher. So, I'll move on to the next one....
