Jesus called it, "Signs of the times.." You can see it. You can sense it. Events in our world seem to be racing toward some great climactic conclusion. Technology is on fire, nations are aligning, and the earth itself shudders from earthquakes, tsunamis, and natural disasters. What's next for our nation and our planet? What's in store for followers of Jesus Christ? What's taking place in the invisible spiritual world (mostly) hidden from our view? Opening the Word of God, author and pastor Greg Laurie helps us see behind the frightening headlines and news reports. Comment by Lenny H. on September 1, 2012 at 12:39pm There are a lot of people that don't like to think about or discuss the coming back of Jesus for those who proclaim Him and the aftermath that will follow mostly because they do not understand or it is simply too frightening to contemplate it. But knowledge of the word of God's word brings enlightenment and peace of mind. In Luke and also in Matthew, both apostles give an account of what Jesus said describing the end time; from Luke 21:
8 He replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them. 9 When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away." 10 Then he said to them: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. Then it goes on to say: 25 "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. 26 Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." 29 He told them this parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
That most certainly sounds like terrible times but God has given us hope and provision that we do not have to remain to see the destruction that will take place AFTER the rapture. The word states in I Thessalonians 4; speaking first of those who have died in Christ and then those that are alive at His coming:
13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words.
So in reading both of those passages of the terrible things to come (which we are now seeing) and then reading how God has made provision for those of us who are proclaiming His name and living according to the dictates of His will, I am encouraged and not fearful of that which is to come.
